Judith Surry has recently joined the staff at King’s as a Visitor Guide. But in her spare time she is a marathon runner. Earlier this month she completed her 10th race, when she ran in the Paris marathon. She started running back in 2010, encouraged by her son, who had always wanted to run in a marathon. With a personal best of 5 hours, Judith has run in all the 6 major marathons (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York) as well as adding Paris and 2 races in Washington to her total. In fact she has run the Boston marathon twice, as the first time was the occasion when there was a bomb attack on the race, and so many of the runners returned in 2014 to run again. ‘I train everyday – either running or at the gym,’ comments Judith. ‘My motivation is to run in memory of my husband and in Chicago in 2013 I got to fulfil the ambition of running a marathon with my son’. Judith ran the Paris marathon in support of the British Red Cross. If anyone would like to sponsor her, there is still time to donate (upto 8th May). See Judith in person (she’ll be on the front or back gate of College, or at the Chapel) or donate at http://virginmoneygiving.com/JudithSurry Judith is no stranger to the College as she was a volunteer in the Chapel before taking up her paid role.
