Procession for Advent

The Procession for Advent is one of the major services in Chapel each year and since its inception in 1934 has been the main occasion when the College community gathers in its Chapel. Admission is by ticket only.

Although this is primarily a service for the community of King’s College we make an allocation of tickets available to the public.

We regret that the service is not suitable for very young children.  It lasts about 90 minutes, begins in darkness and incorporates periods of silence.

A special performance of Shakespeare's Macbeth opened in King's College Chapel last night to rave reviews. 💀🗡️🩸 The adaptation is directed by King's students Eva and Charlie and features several King's students in the cast and production teams. King's third-year Esther who stars as Lady Macbeth says, "performing with King's students in a place so important to our community is a memory I will have forever." This document is the foundation charter of King’s College which establishes the various lands and privileges granted by Henry VI in 1446. The intricate illuminations depict Henry’s dedication to the Virgin and St Nicholas, much to the approval of his assembled lords. King’s College Archive holds records of the college’s history as well as the personal papers of key Bloomsbury figures and alumni. On International Women's Day we're celebrating the King's women who are striving to make a difference in their chosen fields. 💪Charlotte Proudman (KC 2013) is a human rights lawyer widely recognised as having made a major contribution to changing the legal landscape on ending male violence against women and children. Her book, 'He Said She Said: Truth, Trauma and the Struggle for Justice in Family Court' is released on 1 May. 💪Psychotherapist Jennifer Cox (KC 1996) is an author and speaker on issues of feminism and global mental health. Her book, 'Women Are Angry', was published last summer and won The Times and Sunday Times Best Self-Help Book of the Year. For fourth year undergraduate Dan [📷 1] , completing the @CambridgeHalfUK has been a long-term goal, "Ever since I arrived here, I've wanted to run the Cambridge Half Marathon, but only now am I finally making it happen. I am always inspired by the relationship between discomfort and growth and I can’t wait to test myself mentally and physically on Sunday." Also taking on his first ever Half is King's Fellow and @CambridgeUniversity Proctor Dr Fraz Mir [📷 2], "I was inspired to run by watching others run the London Marathon and to impress friends and family! I also wanted to use it as an opportunity to get fitter myself and raise money for @CR_UK. I’ve managed to raise over £3000 so far and hope to reach the target of £5k by this Sunday!"

I’m running the Cambridge Half Marathon to challenge myself to beat my times from when I was a rower and as an excuse to spend a weekend visiting Cambridge." It's Half Marathon week here at King's! This Sunday, thousands of runners will pass through King's grounds as part of the 14th @CambridgeHalfUK. Among them will be a few familiar King's faces, including our Health and Safety Advisor Stuart 🏃🎽🥇 Stuart says: "I’m doing the Cambridge Half as part of a training plan for a bigger venture in August. My wife and I (head of Housekeeping at @Peterhouse_Cam) will be taking part in ‘The Great Norse Run’, a 209 mile ultramarathon crossing Iceland from North to South. The Cambridge Half isn’t my first, I represented the UK in the half marathon at the 2015 World Police & Fire Games in the USA and I’ve done a couple of other endurance type events over a half marathon-ish distance." #CambridgeHalfMarathon #TTPCambridgeHalf #RunningCommunity
  
Meet Kenzie, second-year King's undergraduate and drummer in Cambridge band Mother 🥁 Mother - who play with singer Iona Luke - will join three other Cambridge student acts in the final of @cambridgeuniversity's band competition, Take It to the Bridge on 7 March. The winner of the competition will be awarded an artist support package, which includes studio time, a photoshoot, industry advice and the opportunity to record two songs of release quality. Kenzie says: "It’s been such a fun band to be part of, playing high quality gigs whilst also having lots of laughs, jokes, and audience interaction. I play a lot of drums around Cambridge outside of this band, drumming in jazz bands, big bands, the @cuwindorchestra, pit bands, bar nights, and with the @cambridgefootlights. As a multi-percussionist, I play orchestral percussion in the @camuniorchestra and jazz percussion in the University Jazz Orchestra, even headlining the Cambridge Jazz Festival and the Shostakovich Anniversary Festival. I am excited to be playing in the Young Euro Classical festival in Berlin this summer with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. I play timpani in various projects, including the King's College Orchestra, which I will be conducting this term! I'm also publicity officer for the King’s College Music Society @KCMSofficial. I am super excited to be playing in this year's battle of the bands at Junction and we would love to see lots of people there!" The teams have just been announced for The Varsity Rugby Matches and we are thrilled to see our very own George, Elina and Amelie will be playing for the #lightblues! 🏉 Returning Blue George commented; "Coming off the back of such a historic victory last year, this year we have had to work really hard to make sure there is no complacency amongst the squad. Our captain, Fergus has worked hard to instil this in us and I feel we are now in a strong position to win the first three-peat since 2007 and write our own names in history." George and Elina will take on the #darkblues at the StoneX Stadium on 8 March, and Amelie will face them as part of the CURUFC Jaguars (women’s 3rd XV) in Cambridge on 2 March. Elina told us “I’m very excited to be starting 10 for the Blues rugby Varsity team. After bringing home the trophy whilst captaining the 2nd XV last year, we’ll be hoping for the same result this year at StoneX Stadium in London" Amelie says "It's extremely good fun. Everyone at CURUFC (players and coaches) are lovely. Looking back at a jam-packed LGBT+ History Month (and beyond) at King's: 🏳️‍🌈Alongside a selection of borrowable LGBT+ titles, our Library team also curated an exhibition of rare books from the Library’s special collections on the theme of ‘Activism and Social Change’ the official theme of this year’s LGBT+ History Month. 🏳️‍🌈Our students enjoyed the LGBT+ Formal, with special guest speaker Steven Friel, CEO of legal-finance company Woodsford, and Chair of the Cambridge LGBT+ Alumni Association. 🏳️‍🌈Following on from his successful talk as part of the @cambridgeuniversity LGBT+ History Month activities, our own Simon Goldhill will be discussing his new book "Queer Cambridge" in College on 13 March. #LGBTHistoryMonth
