As the Chancellor, Lord David Sainsbury of Turville (KC 1959), looks forward to retirement in summer 2025, we recognise and thank him for his extraordinary dedication to the University over 13 years of unwavering commitment.

Members of the Senate will be asked to elect a new Chancellor in summer 2025. For the first time, voting will be online as well as in person in Cambridge, so that more of the global community of eligible alumni can take part alongside senior members of the University and the Colleges.

Cambridge alumni will have received an email in March with details about the election and how to register for online voting. Registration for online voting will be in March and April, the list of candidates will be published in June and the election will take place in July. In the meantime, you can read more about the role of the Chancellor and the upcoming election process

Check if you are eligible to vote online here.

Additional Congregation on 11 April

The deadline to register to vote online is 2 May, so on Friday 11 April 2025 there will be an additional Congregation for conferment in absence only of the MA, any other Master’s degree, or of a Doctorate, on those who are qualified to receive such degrees. This will give them Senate membership if they wish to participate in the upcoming election of the new Chancellor of the University.

Find the full list of degree congregations here and please note that those joining this special Congregation will then be unable to attend any later in-person one for that same degree.

To have your degree conferred in absence on 11 April in time to vote in this summer's election, complete this registration form by 27 March.
