Ten undergraduate and nine postgraduate students will form the inaugural cohort of the new Entrepreneurship Lab programme at King’s, set to launch on 26th September. The 19 students – from a wide range of subjects including computer science, politics, genetics, and economics – will begin a week-long residential training programme prior to the start of the new academic term, with a series of events, workshops and talks following on throughout the year.

Established thanks to a generous donation, the King’s Entrepreneurship Lab is designed to equip students with entrepreneurial skills and support those wishing to explore a career path in innovation, entrepreneurship and business, with an emphasis on developing sustainable and ethical projects with a positive social and environmental impact. Open to all current King’s students and encouraging diverse entrepreneurs-to-be, the year-long programme will culminate in the opportunity to receive seed-funding to take their ideas forward.

The Lab is run by co-directors Kamiar Mohaddes and Thomas Roulet, with the support of an advisory board made up of alumni Malcolm McKenzie (KC 1977), Jonathan Adams (KC 1986), Luke Alvarez (KC 1986), Penelope Herscher (KC 1979), Stuart Lyons (KC 1962), Sheelpa Patel (KC 1995), and Tim Flack (Senior Tutor).

The Chair of the Advisory Board, Malcolm McKenzie, commented:

“King’s has always been celebrated for a willingness to break new ground. Now more than ever fostering a culture of innovation and enterprise is tremendously important. This initiative is inspired by the spirit of many great King’s alumni of the past (including Sir Charles Inglis, John Maynard Keynes and Phil Vincent), and current successful alumni entrepreneurs (such as Hermann Hauser, Penny Herscher and Sheelpa Patel). I hope that the Entrepreneurship Lab will help and encourage a diverse set of students to further develop their entrepreneurial mindset, and become an exciting new part of King’s life.”
