Global Talent Fund - King's College Summer Research Programme 2025

The Global Talent Fund and King’s College, Cambridge are delighted to invite BIG scholars to apply to the GTF-King’s College Summer Research Programme 2025!

The GTF - King’s College Summer Research Programme offers BIG scholars in the early and middle years of their degree the chance to gain hands-on research experience. Research at undergraduate level can be a first stepping stone to a future academic or research-led career. It provides a great opportunity for students to gain an understanding of the research environment and obtain new skills, and King’s College is delighted to offer this opportunity to the BIG scholars!

The Summer Research programme

The programme provides exciting opportunities for students to work with a King’s Fellow on a focused research project for a 8 –10 week period over the summer vacation. As a student, participation in a research project can make a significant contribution to your transferable skills, add to your CV and help gain understanding of the research environment – and perhaps help determine whether this career direction is or isn’t for you.

Eligibility

To make a valid application to the GTF-King’s College Summer Research Programme 2025, you need to be a current BIG scholar from one of the following Universities: Imperial College London, the University of Bristol, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Warwick. At the point of applying, you have to be in the early or middle years of your undergraduate study, i.e. not the final year of your study. The projects open for applications are in Mathematics, but you do not need to be studying Mathematics in order to apply for a project. You will require a certain level of mathematical knowledge however, so please do read the project descriptions very carefully to decide whether you would be suitable for the projects.

What is included?

Participating students will work on a research project with a Fellow of King’s College and will receive an award to cover accommodation and subsistence for up to 10 weeks. They will be offered subsidised accommodation in King’s College. The projects officially start on 30 June, with a launch event in Cambridge on 27 June and projects to run for 8 to 10 weeks. There can be a break in between, but this should not be longer than 2 weeks, either consecutive or in total. As part of the project there will be a number of personal and professional development sessions running once every week during the summer, either on a Monday or Wednesday from 9am - 10.15am. Attendance at a number of these will be mandatory and you have to commit to this as part of the Summer Research Programme. More details about the dates and content of the sessions will be provided to confirmed participants in early June.
