Dean of Chapel

King’s College, Cambridge, intends to appoint an ordained member of the Anglican Communion to the position of Dean from January 2026. The Dean will become a Fellow and take a full part in the intellectual life of the College. They will have, under the Governing Body, overall authority in the Chapel and responsibility for its liturgical life and administration. The Dean, along with the Chaplain, will provide spiritual and pastoral support to all members of the College.

Salary: 
Salary will depend upon experience, but for a suitably qualified applicant will not be less than £70,000 per annum

The Dean enjoys all the benefits of a College Fellowship, including 40 days annual leave, free meals, annual research grant, free car parking, access to a private healthcare scheme, a Cycle to Work scheme, and use of a gym. The successful candidate will be able to remain a member of the Church of England pension scheme.

All applications should include a CV including a complete list of the candidate’s clerical experience, a letter of application, a short statement of what they would particularly hope to achieve if elected Dean of King’s, and the names of two referees whom they have asked to write on their behalf to the College by the closing date (references should be sent by e-mail to eve.simkiss@kings.cam.ac.uk).

It would be helpful if candidates could ask their referees to include their assessments of the candidate’s administrative abilities and interpersonal skills; intellectual standing and resilience in academic debate; priestly and spiritual qualities, including pastoral gifts and experience, and musical interests.

The appointment of the successful candidate will be formally ratified by the Governing Body on July 18th. It is expected that the new Dean will join the College in January 2026.
