Dr Angus Russell
Research Fellow
Subject:
History
Research:

I work mainly on the history of Mongol and post-Mongol Eurasia, with a particular focus on the politics and institutions of Rusʹ and Moscow in the late medieval period; my doctoral thesis traced the evolution of fiscal models in the regions conquered by the Mongol khans, and situated these practices in global and transnational trajectories of historical change. My current research involves attending to the role played by language and translation in cross-cultural interactions before modernity.

Before coming to King’s, I studied for my PhD in Slavonic Studies down the road at Trinity College, Cambridge. Otherwise, I’ve also spent time living and studying in Ekaterinburg, Moscow, Oxford, and Paris.
