We are thrilled to reveal the first photovoltaic (PV) panels installed on the roof of the College Chapel and to celebrate with the King’s and Cambridge community that we are near the end of a year-long conservation project that will hopefully inspire others to go greener.
The College recognised a once-in-a-generation opportunity to both completely restore the roof and install PV panels while the necessary infrastructure was in place, as the Chapel roof is the single largest potential opportunity for renewable electricity generation on the main College site.
The project is being delivered by
@caroearchitecture and
@barnesconstruction_ , working in partnership with a number of regional firms with experience of historic conservation and reclaimed materials.
“This is an historic moment for King’s College Chapel and Britain’s architectural heritage” commented Provost Dr Gillian Tett. “It is only one step on the road towards cleaner, greener energy but it is a potent and inspirational symbol of our commitment to being good stewards of our environment.”
