Keynes Hall

Rachel Jupp (KC 1996) works at the BBC – and has been the editor of Panorama, the long-running BBC TV current affairs programme. Appointed in 2016, she is only the second woman to have held the position. Eleni Courea (KC 2013) is Deputy Editor of Politico London Playbook. She was previously a political reporter at The Times, and has been a UK lobby correspondent for four years.

Join them for a discussion (in person or online) about the role that both broadcast and print media play in holding power to account during these turbulent political times, the challenges that women face in the sector, and how King’s shaped their path to becoming journalists.

The event will be held in the Keynes Hall and, although it is free to attend, booking is required as seating is limited. This event can also be attended digitally.

Rachel Jupp studied SPS at Cambridge University and then did an MA in public administration at Columbia University, in New York. She worked first in politics, and then moved into journalism. Initially an intern at ITN in Washington DC, she then became a producer at Channel 4 News – before working as a programme editor and then the head of news in the UK. Rachel then moved to the BBC – first as the Deputy Editor of Newsnight, and then as the Editor of Panorama. She now works as the Editorial Executive within the Content division, providing editorial and strategic support across all TV, Radio, Childrens and Sport programmes. She has three young children.

Eleni Courea joined the Lobby, the term for the 200-odd political journalists who have access to No 10 briefings and the corridors of parliament, in 2018. She worked as a political reporter for The Times for two years before joining POLITICO in 2022 as deputy editor of its London Playbook newsletter, a must-read morning briefing for those who work in Westminster. At King’s she studied Human, Social and Political Sciences and was a president of KCSU. Her first job after graduating was as a reporter for a specialist research policy magazine. She grew up in Nicosia, Cyprus.
