King's College Chapel

All King's Members wishing to attend the Procession for Advent may apply for two tickets annually. This replaces the previous system, which allowed Members to apply for tickets every four years. The Dean hopes that this new system will enable many of you to attend Procession for Advent more regularly.

Applications to attend this service can be sent throughout the year, to assist Members who wish to plan in advance for travel and other arrangements. We hope that you will understand that tickets cannot be guaranteed as, according to demand, priority for tickets will be at the discretion of the Dean. 

To request tickets for the service, please complete the Ticket Request Form, and return with a 1st class stamped addressed envelope to: Procession for Advent 2018, Development Office, King’s College, Cambridge, CB2 1ST. Applications for tickets will be acknowledged.

If you would like to collect your tickets on the day from the Porters' Lodge you are welcome to apply for tickets by email: events@kings.cam.ac.uk  

Please send ticket applications by Wednesday, 31st October 2018.

Service Timings

Procession for Advent will start at 6.00pm. Please note that doors open at 5.00pm and guests are asked to be seated in the Chapel by 5.45pm. The service will last approximately an hour and a half.

Other Services

Non-Resident Members are of course most welcome to attend the regular Chapel services. NRMs may bring two guests, sit in the College stalls and queue for admission in the College queue, usually in front of the Gibbs’ Building. We regret that we cannot normally allow children to sit in the College stalls. For some services tickets are issued and different seating rules will apply. If in doubt, or hoping to bring more guests, NRMs should contact the Dean’s Verger, (tel: +44 (0)1223 746506 or by email), well in advance. In any case, the Dean and Chaplain are always glad to know when NRMs will be attending and to have the opportunity to greet them on arrival or departure. We therefore encourage you to introduce yourself to the clergy during your next visit to the Chapel, so that they might welcome you back to your College and have a brief word of conversation.

Looking back a week on from a sunny graduation. 🎓 Last Friday, 35 graduands celebrated the end of their graduate studies. Among them were Rebecca (left, now Senior Tutor at @trinitycollegeox) and Katherine (right), both 'Class of 2001', who decided to attend this graduation ceremony together as they had both missed the chance to collect their certificates over 20 years ago! Congratulations to the new members of our alumni community!
 
A new exhibition curated by King's Research Fellow Dr Georgia Nasseh opens in London today. 'Glimpses of the Now', which features works by seven artists from Africa and Latin America that highlight the role of collage-making in the Global South, draws upon Georgia's residency at the @universityofpretoria's @javett_up Art Centre. 📍The exhibition takes place between 28–31 May at @fourcornerse2 (121 Roman Road, London E2 0QN). 🎟️Head to external link to secure your free tickets.

If you've read the latest edition of @cambridgeuniversity's CAM magazine you'll know all about two of room U2's residents, so we were delighted when alumnus Matthew Lee (KC 1988) got in touch to share his own memories. "U2, Bodley's Court was my room too! Specifically my third year as an undergraduate (1990-1991) and well I remember that bitter winter when the River Cam froze. That's me in the photo - brushing my teeth as I recall - taken by my Queens' girlfriend - and now wife! I was amused to see that the curtains, desk and general décor look not to have changed one jot; albeit the former seem to have faded a little!" The @TrinCollCam Musical Theatre Programme is a brand-new scheme which offers outstanding vocalists from across @cambridgeuniversity the chance to work over the academic year with internationally-recognised voice teacher @CameronORichardson. 17 students were chosen for the pilot programme from a large number of applications and they have had coaching sessions over the year. The concert on 8 May was the culmination of that work and an opportunity to showcase the musical theatre talent in the University. Part of this first cohort is King’s MPhil student @kaetlyn_liddy (Social Anthropology) who told us as she crossed the Front Court on her way to this very special concert: “I’ll be singing a song called ‘I Wish It So’ from the musical Juno. I’ve learned so much from the Trinity Musical Theatre Programme, particularly from my individual lessons with Cameron Richardson-Eames. Making progress as a singer can sometimes be very gradual or subtle, but I have learned so quickly and effectively in my time with Cameron. Pursuing a career in musical theatre is something I have always been interested in, but I’ve historically found it difficult to balance my academic and artistic goals. This programme has not only helped me develop my technique and artistry as a singer, but reminded me how much I love performing and musical theatre as a creative medium. I find music to be such a nice escape from my academic work, especially as a master’s student, and it only enhances my ability to thrive in that sphere of my life as well. I feel lucky to have been able to do both at a high level this term. It’s not a very common opportunity for most graduate students to continue a creative passion once academic work begins to get more consuming, so I’m very grateful to have been in the first cohort of this wonderful programme.”

An autograph manuscript of Jane Austen’s 'Sanditon' has gone on loan to Harewood House in Yorkshire as part of their new exhibition ‘Austen and Turner: A Country House Encounter’.
