French-Lebanese organist Naji Hakim studied with Jean Langlais before embarking on an international career spanning performance, scholarship and composition. Claiming influences as diverse as Maronite chant, Lutheran chorale and the traditional music of various cultures, his works have received myriad accolades including the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, conferred by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007. Hakim’s programme explores Eastertide themes through recent compositions for grand organ, culminating in one of the spectacular improvisations for which he is well-known.
