Working with schools
Through the University’s Area Links Scheme, King’s organises school visits and hosts groups at the College. While priority may be given to schools in our link area, we welcome enquiries from all schools and aim to support students, teachers, and advisors wherever possible.

Visits to King's
Tours of the College
King's are able to provide free entry to the College grounds and Chapel for UK state schools. If you are a teacher or careers advisor in a school and would be interested in this opportunity, please send us an email with the following information:
- Name of school
- Address of school
- Number of students in group
- Number of teachers/helpers in group
- Date and time of visit
We require at least three weeks notice to organise these visits.
Please note that you will not be provided with a tour of the college, but instead will be sent details in order for you to conduct a self-guided tour of the grounds and Chapel.
Cambridge Link Areas
Every part of the UK is linked with a Cambridge College through the Area Links Scheme, which gives schools and colleges in each area a direct contact at the University. King's College has a link to schools in the North East of England, which includes schools in Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees, East Yorkshire, Kingston-upon-Hull, and York.
Here at King's we are happy to facilitate visits for schools and colleges in our Link Area so that students can experience a little bit of Cambridge. If you are from a school in this area and would like to visit the College, please get in touch with us at slo@kings.cam.ac.uk. Unfortunately, we cannot host or organise visits during our exam period (usually from the end of April to mid-June).

Visits to your school
We visit schools and colleges in our Link Areas to inspire and support students. Our goal is to raise aspirations and show what’s possible with hard work and ambition.
During our visits, we can offer practical advice on choosing A Levels or IB subjects, and we keep things interactive with engaging workshops tailored to the group. We work closely with each school to ensure every session meets the needs of your students.
We’re also happy to run sessions for teachers and parents, and we have experience working with all year groups.
If you are from a school or college in our link area and would like to arrange a visit to your school, please get in touch with us on slo@kings.cam.ac.uk.
Online support
If you are a school interested an alternative online provision to our usual in-person activities, please do get in touch so we can discuss options with you.
Access Bus
Every year, a group of King's undergraduate students travel to the North East to work with Year 10 school students in the state sector through a series of games and activities designed to raise aspirations and provide information about University opportunities. This project has run since 2000. Topics covered in sessions include considering University, the variety of subjects available, student timetables, extra-curricular opportunities, finance, making friends, types of accommodation, entrance requirements, career prospects, and applying to Cambridge.
In March 2024, the Access Bus visited schools in Middlesbrough, Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, and Redcar. Four King's College student volunteers, accompanied by Outreach Officer Ellie Nethaway, visited 11 schools in four days, working with approximately 275 students in total. We are grateful to the schools and teachers making these visits possible, to the students who welcomed us into their classrooms, and our amazing student volunteers for giving up their time and energy.
If you are a teacher at a school in our link area and are interested in being part of the Access Bus in the future, please contact us as slo@kings.cam.ac.uk.
