Graduate Admissions FAQs
How many applications does King's receive and how many places are offered?
In any year, King's can receive over 750 applications for graduate study. Around 30% of applicants receive offers and, of these, around half will then progress to meet their conditions and commence their course.
Does King's accept graduate students in all subjects?
King's accepts students for the majority of graduate courses. At present, we do not consider students for Land Economy or Education courses, unless you have previously been a King's undergraduate student or are working directly with a King's Fellow.
I am a current/previous member of another Cambridge college - can I still apply to King's?
Yes, King's has no restrictions on students who are currently at another college, or who have previously been at another college, applying for further study at King's.
When do I apply for a King’s studentship - before or after I apply for my course?
You apply for a King’s studentship at the same time as you make your Cambridge application. However, you must apply prior to the course funding deadlines in order to be considered, unless the studentship has a separate deadline.
I have a question about the application process and/or accompanying material
Please refer to the University Applicant Portal regarding what supporting information is required.
When will I know if I have been successful with my application?
If you have nominated King's College as your preferred College, once we are notified that you have received an offer to study at Cambridge, your application will come to us for review. We aim to review your application and make a decision within two weeks. However, this can take longer for a number of reasons, particularly from the middle of January to early March, when we receive the most applications for consideration. If your application has been with us for more than three weeks, please contact us if you wish to check on its progress.
When does King’s close for applications for College membership for Graduate courses?
We usually close in March for courses starting in October of that year. However, the spaces on some courses can fill up much quicker than this.
My course application won’t be processed in time to reach King’s before your expected closing date, what should I do?
Your application for College membership must get to us before we close for graduate admissions. Therefore, we would advise that you apply as early as you can, as the application process can be lengthy. If you are concerned at any time about your College application not getting to King’s on time, you can track its progress on your self-service page on CamSIS and, if necessary, depending where your application is up to, contact the Department or the University's Postgraduate Admissions Office to check on its progress.
