Sitting admissions assessments and other tests

This page is for King's applicants who have been invited for interview in Cambridge and will sit a test or admissions assessment "at-interview". It is to be read in the context of the Cambridge interview section in the Applicant Information 2021.

This information is worth reading carefully, and please read it again shortly before your test date, as we may be adding details over time.

Please start by reading your invitation to interview very carefully. Do you have a test or Admissions Assessment? Where does your invitation to interview say that it is? Do not assume that your test or Admissions Assessment will be in the same format as other candidates' test or on the same platform as your interviews.

See the table below for the times of tests in different subjects. At this stage only the dates and times and very brief details of the planned arrangements are available. If you have applied for one of these subjects, please wait for confirmation of details and further practical information. There is nothing you need to do before receiving an invitation to interview except to put the date in your calendar and ensure that you will be available if selected.

We will send you detailed instructions about how to access the assessment paper (via our Moodle platform), with further information about any resources that can be used, whether your answer should be word-processed or handwritten and how to upload your completed paper.

Candidates in the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia will be scheduled for the morning paper, unless we are notified of an unavoidable commitment, while candidates in the USA, Canada and South America will be scheduled for the afternoon paper. Candidates in Australasia should indicate to us which paper best suits your time zone.

You may take the assessment in your home or at your school – whichever environment feels the most comfortable to you and has the most reliable internet connection. It is not invigilated, but please do try to find a quiet environment where you will not be disturbed.

You are expected to spend an hour completing the assessment; a slightly broader time window is provided to allow for download and upload of the paper. If you have notified us of extra time requirements, this will be factored into the allowable upload deadline.

If you do experience any difficulty during the Assessment window, either technical or personal, you should report this to the admissions office at King's as soon as possible afterwards, for taking into proper consideration.

During your online interview you may be asked to discuss your responses in further detail, so you should make sure that you retain a copy of your answers for reference. Please destroy the question paper.

The assessment only forms one part of the evidence we will use in our selection process, alongside your academic record (and any contextual information), your personal statement, your reference, and the interview itself.
