Hueston Finlay

Dean of Chapel

Hueston joins King’s College as the newly appointed Dean of Chapel. He has previously served as Vice-Dean at St George’s Chapel and Warden of St George’s House in Windsor. Cambridge is not new to him: he has previously been Chaplain to Girton College, curate at The University Church, Great St Mary’s, and also Dean of Chapel at Magdalene College.

He also holds an M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Open University and a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of London. The subject of his doctoral thesis was the hermeneutical theory of the nineteenth-century German theologian and philosopher Friedrich Schleiermacher. His research focusses on various aspects of Schleiermacher’s thinking paying particular attention to those areas that connect to the work of Karl Barth. He is currently an Honorary Research Fellowship at the University of Aberdeen.

In recent years as Warden of St George’s House, Hueston has been part of high-level discussions on matters of social and ethical concern, inter-faith dialogue, and has worked with chief executives across the globe to promote just and equitable commercial practice.

He enjoys cruciverbalism and is a keen supporter of Leinster Rugby.
