Christopher Jones

Chris is the Loke Medical Sciences Fellow at King’s, an Assistant Professor in the University of Cambridge Department of Oncology, and an Honorary Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He is also Co-Director of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Radiation Research Centre of Excellence.

After reading Medicine & Surgery (2007-2013) and gaining an intercalated Bachelor of Medical Sciences (2010) at the University of Birmingham, Chris pursued joint clinical and academic training via an Academic Foundation Programme post in Birmingham (2013-2015) and a National Institute for Health Research Academic Clinical Fellowship at Leeds Cancer Centre (2015-2017). He was awarded a Wellcome Clinical Research Fellowship to complete a PhD in Cancer Biology at the University of Leeds (2017-2021). Chris subsequently completed a Clinical Lectureship (2022-2026) with Prof Rebecca Fitzgerald at the Early Cancer Institute in the University of Cambridge Department of Oncology.

Chris has a longstanding interest in oesophageal and gastric cancers. As the Loke Medical Sciences Fellow, his research focuses on how new forms of radiation therapy can be used to improve outcomes for these malignancies. This work harnesses complex in vitro models that replicate in vivo tumours coupled with state-of-the-art techniques that provide a high-resolution understanding of how cancer cells adapt to and resist cancer therapies.
