It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Professor Campbell (Cam) Middleton, Life Fellow of the College, on 11 March 2026.

Cam taught engineering at King’s since the early 1990s, specialising in structural engineering and structural analysis.

He was a world-renowned engineer whose career progressed from designing bridges in Australia to research on topics as varied as the ultimate strength of concrete structures, monitoring the forces and movements of built structures and increasing the productivity of construction in the UK and elsewhere.

Equally important has been his influence on a generation of professionals including his many undergraduate and PhD students, postdocs, and colleagues.  Known for connecting people and creating opportunities for others, he was a much-loved figure around the College, sitting on many committees, directing studies, and supervising.

In addition to many other honours, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2024.
