This page points you to the University’s main sources of information about exams. Rather than repeating detailed guidance here (which can change), we recommend using the links below for the most accurate and up‑to‑date advice.

Cambridge Students Exams SharePoint
This is the University’s official exams hub and should be your first stop during the exam period. It offers a clear breakdown of information on exams, including:

  • exam timetables
  • exam rules and regulations
  • what you can and can’t take into the exam
  • exam arrangements and updates

If illness or serious circumstances affect your exam

If serious illness or another grave cause has affected your ability to complete an exam or formal assessment as expected, you should consult the EAMC guidance for information on applying for allowances.

This includes:

  • whether you may be eligible to apply
  • what counts as a valid reason
  • how to apply and what evidence is needed

The University’s exam allowance system was revised on 1 October 2025. While full details are set out in the University guidance, students should be aware of the following:

  • Act quickly: You normally need to submit a Student Initiation Form (available on the EAMC guidance website) to your Tutor and the Tutorial Office within 7 days of the affected exam or submission (or 7 days after your last exam in an exam period), and before exam results are known.
  • Exam allowances are only for serious circumstances: Applications are considered where illness or grave cause was unexpected, beyond your control, and close in time to the exam.
  • Evidence is essential: All applications must be supported by appropriate, independent evidence.
  • Affected studies: If your circumstances are affecting your studies before exams begin, you should seek advice from your Tutor or DoS about relevant mitigations rather than attempting the exams if you are not fit to do so.
