Recognition
We are honoured to recognise all gifts to the College, with deep appreciation for your contribution to King’s.
All gifts are acknowledged with a letter of thanks, as well as being mentioned in our Annual Report. Receipts for donations can be provided on request, and donors are of course welcome to remain anonymous, according to individual preference.
Donors who establish an expendable or endowed fund will receive an annual stewardship report, detailing the impact that their gift has had upon the College and its community.
Donors are recognised for their annual and cumulative giving, as well as for legacy pledges. For outstanding philanthropy, donors are eligible for nomination to the 1441 Foundation, or for election as a Fellow Commoner or a Fellow Benefactor.
The Donor Board, situated under the Library Arches, permanently records and celebrates the College’s greatest benefactors. The names of Fellow Benefactors are inscribed in gold, those of Fellow Commoners in silver, and major deceased Legators in rose gold.

The 1441 Foundation
The 1441 Foundation recognises extraordinary philanthropy in support of the mission of King’s College, Cambridge.
Membership of the 1441 Foundation is by invitation of the College and based on a donor’s cumulative giving. Fellow Commoners and Fellow Benefactors are elected by the College’s Governing Body.

The annual 1441 Foundation Dinner allows King's to thank its donors in person for their great generosity and celebrate what it makes possible. Philanthropy is central to so much of what we can do!

King Henry VI Legacy Circle
All those who have written to confirm that a legacy gift to King’s College is included in their Will are recognised with membership of the King Henry VI Legacy Circle and are known as Legators. This group meets once a year for a special daytime event. It provides an opportunity to get to know our Legators better whilst showcasing some of the College's research, the talent of our students, and and keeping guests current with King’s .
Legators who provide evidence that their legacy gift to King's College is more than £100,000 may be recognised as Lifetime members of the 1441 Foundation; Legators who provide evidence that their legacy gift to King's College is more than£250,000 may be recognised as Guild members of the 1441 Foundation.
In addition, Legators living in the United States may be eligible for membership in Cambridge in America’s 1209 Society.

University Recognition
The Guild of Cambridge Benefactors was established in 1998 to honour the generosity of major benefactors of over £1 million to the University and the Colleges. Members’ names are recorded on the Benefactors’ Staircase in the Old Schools, the historic heart of the University and are invited to the annual Guild of Cambridge Benefactors Dinner.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Circle was created in 2007 as part of the Cambridge 800th Anniversary Campaign to recognise and thank those donors who have given over £250,000 for key projects and programmes that underpin excellence at Cambridge. Members are invited to an annual reception.
