Archive Centre

The Archive Centre holds two types of documents:

1. College Archives – the College's internal, administrative records, including the College Estate Records
   • Guide to the College archives
   • Tour of the College archives
2. Modern Archives - the personal papers of former members and associated individuals.

The collections were given separate accommodation in the refurbished Library extension in 1992. They are currently accessed by visiting and local researchers more than 700 times a year.

Exhibitions

The Archive Centre runs occasional exhibitions. For details see the Exhibitions page. You can also see some of the items in the archives in the Archive of the month and the Tour of the College archives.

The conversion of our catalogues into electronic form is an ongoing process.  Finding aids are available on-line:

• The Janus website of catalogues of archive collections within Cambridge University and individual Colleges, including a comprehensive list of all the King's College Archive Centre holdings
• The College's estates records, which were digitised comprehensively in 2005
• An overview of the categories of administrative archives kept by the College
• A list of the personal paper collections in the Modern Archives
• The library catalogue including summary details of the personal papers collections

Naturally, good, old fashioned hard-copy catalogues of all the College and Modern Archives continue to be available in the Archive Centre reading room! The Archivist is happy to advise researchers on their contents – please see the contact details below.
