Entrance requirements

At King's, our applicants come from countries and examination systems all around the world, and we have considerable expertise in assessing non-A level applications. The following are just some of our most common standard offers. For details of specific offers for other qualification systems, please do not hesitate to contact the King’s Admissions Office (undergraduate.admissions@kings.cam.ac.uk).
Anglophone qualifications
A levels
Our standard A Level offer is A* (in any relevant subject), A, and A. To find out how you can take A levels outside the UK please contact your local British Council.
Pre-U
Our standard offer is D3 in Principal Subjects, potentially with D2 in one Principal Subject. In combination with A-levels, we would ask either for A* (in any relevant subject), A, and D3 or for A, D3 and D3.
International Baccalaureate
We standardly require grades 7, 6, 6 in the relevant Higher Level subjects plus an overall score of 38, including the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay components. Irish Leaving Certificate
Offers have ranged from AAAAA to AAABB at Higher Level.
Scottish Advanced Highers
We typically make offers on three Advanced Higher qualifications, requiring A, A, A.
Welsh Baccalaureate
We typically make offers on three A levels within the Advanced Diploma, requiring A, A, A.
Australian Certificates
We standardly require an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 98.5%. For the Queensland Certificate of Education our standard offer requires an Overall Position in band 1.
Canada/Ontario
We standardly require at least 80% overall in grade 12. N.B.: The admissions websites for other Cambridge Colleges may specify different offers for applicants from Canada. We can confirm that the information above is correct for all courses at King's.
New Zealand
We standardly require the University Entrance Certificate with National Certificates in Educational Achievement (NCEA) at Level 3 with 80 credits and with a grade of Excellent in the majority of subjects taken, or the University Entrance Certificate with the New Zealand Bursaries Certificate at a score of at least 400.
US Advanced Placements and SAT II Subject Tests
Most successful US applicants offer at least three Advanced Placement courses, and we would expect candidates to achieve 5, 5, 5 in the most relevant subjects. We do not make offers on SAT scores, but in addition to SAT I or ACT we encourage candidates to submit three SAT II subject tests (our students' individual scores are typically above 700). Students at US schools which do not offer AP courses are encouraged to email us for further information. International qualifications
English language requirements
We usually require applicants whose first language is something other than English to sit the IELTS examination, and to offer an overall score of at least 7.5, with no individual element below 7.0. Since we interview most candidates, we also use the interview to establish your communication skills in English. Please see full details on the International students' page
Austrian Matura
Our standard offer for those taking the Austrian Matura is an overall grade of 'sehr gut'.
Belgian Diploma
Our standard offer for the Belgian Diploma is an overall score of at least 8.0 (80%) overall, potentially with higher grades in the most relevant subjects.
Bulgarian Diploma Za Zavarsheno Sredno Obrazovanie (DZSO)
We standardly require grade 6 in the most relevant subjects.
Carribean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)
We standardly require a grade of 1 in three double unit subjects.
Czech Maturita
We standardly require grade 1 in the majority of subjects.
Danish Studentereksamen
Our standard offer for the Danish Studentereksamen is a certified pass with at least 10.0 overall, including 11 in English.
Dutch VWO
Our standard offer for the Dutch VWO requires an overall score of at least 8.0, potentially with higher grades in the most relevant subjects.
Estonian State Examinations
Our standard offer for the Estonian Riigieksamid requires at least 90% overall and 90% in the most relevant subjects.
European Baccalaureate
We usually require an overall score of at least 85%, potentially with higher scores in the most relevant subjects.
Finnish Ylioppilastutkintotodistus/Studentexamensbetyg (National Matriculation)
We usually require passes in at least four subjects, with no subject below eximia (excellent) and at least two subjects at laudatur (outstanding).
French Baccalauréat
We usually require an overall 'mention bien' (at least 14 out of 20), potentially with higher grades in the most relevant subjects. N.B.: The admissions websites for other Cambridge Colleges may specify higher offers for applicants from France. We can confirm that the information above is correct for all courses at King's. Students taking the OIB should see the separate entry below.
German Abitur
We require an overall score of at least 1.3 in the Abitur, potentially with higher scores in the most relevant subjects.
Greek/Cypriot Apolytirion
We standardly require a score of at least 19.0 overall.
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education
Our standard HKDSE offer is 5*, 5*, and 5 in three electives.
Hungarian Erettsegi
Our standard offer for candidates offering the Hungarian Erettsegi requires grade 5 in the majority of subjects.
Indian CBSE or ISC Class XII examinations and the IIT-JEE

Iran
Our standard offer for candidates educated in Iran requires a National Entrance Exam (Konkur) with scores of 18 or more, and the Pre-University Certificate (Peeshdaneshgahe) with a result of at least 80%.
Israeli Bagrut
We would require an overall 85% with at least three 5 unit subjects in the Israeli Bagrut.
Italian Esame di Stato
Our standard offer for candidates sitting the Italian Esame di Stato specifies an overall score of 95%.
Latvian Certificate of General Secondary Education
Our standard offer for the Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību requires at least 90% overall and 90% in the most relevant subjects.
Liechtenstein Matura
We standardly require scores of 6 in the majority of subjects.
Lithuanian Brandos Atestatas
We standardly require at least 90% overall and 90% in the most relevant subjects.
Luxembourg
We standardly require an overall score of at least 50 in the Diplôme de Fin d'Etudes Secondaires.
Maltese Advanced Matriculation Certificate
We standardly require the Advanced Matriculation with A grades in A level subjects.
Morocco Baccalauréat
We standardly require at least 18 out of 20.
Norwegian Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate
Our standard offer for candidates offering the Norwegian upper secondary leaving certificate (which must be endorsed as Generell Studiekompetanse) is 5.3 overall with 6 in the most relevant subjects.
OIB (the International Option of the French Baccalaureate)
We usually require an overall 'mention bien' (at least 14 out of 20), potentially with higher grades in the most relevant subjects.
Polish Matura
Our standard offer requires a certified pass in the seventh stanine or above overall, with scores in the seventh stanine or above in the three most relevant subjects (as published by the Central Examinations Commission - please see their website for details).
Portuguese DES
Our standard offer for candidates with the Portuguese Diploma de Ensino Secundário requires at least a 17.0 overall, potentially with 18 in the most relevant subjects.
Romanian Baccalaureate
Our standard offer for the Romanian Baccalaureate requires a score of at least 9.0 overall.
Serbia Secondary School Leaving Diploma
Our standard offer for the Serbia Diploma o završenoj srednjoj školi requires an overall score of 5.0, with scores of 5 in the most relevant subjects.
Singapore-Cambridge Advanced Levels
Our standard offer for Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Levels is AAA at H2 level. For any subject taken at H3 level, we would require a merit.
Slovakian Matura
We standardly require grade 1 in the majority of subjects.
Slovenian Matura
We standardly require grade 5 in the majority of subjects.
Spainish Título de Bachiller
We standardly require an overall score of at least 9.0.
Sri Lankan GCE Advanced Levels
Our standard offer for Sri Lankan GCE Advanced Levels is A, A, A.
Swedish FSFG
For students who started studying for the Swedish school leaving exam (FSFG: Fullständigt Slutbetyg från Gymnasieskolan) before 2011, we require a score of at least 19.0 overall, with MVG in the relevant subjects.
Our standard offer for students who started after July 2011 will require at least 2500 points and the grade requirements will be confirmed here in July 2013.
Swiss Matura
Our standard offer for the Swiss Federal Maturity Certificate requires an overall grade of at least 5.0, potentially with 6 in the most relevant subjects.
Tanzania
- Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate (COHSC)
- East African Advanced Certificate of Education (EAACE)
- National Form VI Examination / Advanced Certificate of Education
We standardly require AAA in one of the above qualifications.
Tunisian Baccalauréat
We usually require an overall score of at least 16 out of 20.
Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)
Our standard offer for the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education is A, A, A.
West Indies Carribean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)
We standardly require a grade of 1 in three double unit subjects.
