King's student to row in the Boat Race
First-year medical student Fanny Belais is rowing in the Cambridge women's crew in the Boat Race on 11 April.
It will be a historic race because it is the first time the women's race has taken place on the same day and along the same course as the men's race. It will also have the same television coverage as the men's.
At 19, Fanny is the youngest member of the Cambridge crew. She is also stroke, which means she sets the pace for the other rowers and needs to keep it up for the course of over four miles.
But Fanny, who is from Switzerland, is a seasoned rower for her age. She rows in the lightweight category, and won a bronze medal for her country in the U23 World Championships in 2014 in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls. She has also won medals in other junior national and international competitions.
Making it to the Cambridge crew is a fantastic achievement and we wish her and the rest of the team the best of luck on 11 April!
