New Year's honours for King's alumni
Three King's alumni - Gwyneth Stallard, Sir Adrian Cadbury and Olav Slaymaker - have received New Year's honours.
Gwyneth Stallard (KC 1985) has been awarded an OBE for services to Higher Education. She is Professor of Pure Mathematics at the Open University and has made fundamental contributions to the theory of the dynamics of transcendental complex functions, which resulted in the award of the London Mathematical Society Whitehead Prize in 2000. She has done much to promote the careers of women within Mathematics and is Chair of the London Mathematical Society Women in Mathematics Committee.
Sir Adrian Cadbury (KC 1949) has been appointed Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH) for services to business and the community, especially in Birmingham. Sir Adrian is a former British Olympic rower and former Chairman of Cadbury Schweppes. He is an Honorary Fellow of the College and a generous sponsor of the King's College Boat Club.
Olav Slaymaker (KC 1958) has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada 'for advancing the field of geology, notably through his research on landform evolution.' He is Professor of Geography at The University of British Columbia whose research has focussed on global environmental change in mountainous landscapes.
