George the Poet interviewed by The Guardian

George Mpanga

King's student George Mpanga, better known as George the Poet, was interviewed by The Guardian last week. George is in his third year studying Human, Social and Political Sciences, but has a growing reputation as a spoken word artist.

The Guardian interviewed him just after he had performed at the Royal Albert Hall's Elgar Room. He spoke about his upbringing on an estate in Harlesden, north-west London, and the influence of this environment and of rap music on his work.

George also talked about his mission to educate young people to think for themselves, and about the poetry workshops he runs for 15-year-olds all over London.

George has had several YouTube hits, including 'My City' (below), which gave an alternative view of London during the Olympics, and a Formula 1 season closer commissioned by BSkyB.
