A short concert on Saturday 20 October will celebrate the 80th birthdays of two contemporary composers: Alexander Goehr and Hugh Wood.
Both composers taught at Cambridge from 1976 to 1999, when they retired. Alexander Goehr was Professor of Music, and Hugh Wood was a Lecturer in Music.
The concert will include works by Goehr and Wood, and will take place in the Chapel at 6.30pm. Entry is free, and the performers will be David Alberman (violin), Huw Watkins (piano) and the Director of Music at King's, Stephen Cleobury (organ).
Earlier in the day, the Faculty of Music will host a celebration at which colleagues and friends of the composers will give short presentations. Speakers will include Sir Geoffrey Hill, Julian Anderson and Paul Griffiths. King's College Choir will sing works by Goehr and Wood at the event.
This celebration will be held at 2.15 in the Robin Orr Recital Room, Faculty of Music, 11 West Road. Admission is free but you need to get a ticket from Sally Thomson at the Faculty of Music (01223 763481; ).
