King's Chaplain sings Schubert
King's Chaplain and former opera singer Richard Lloyd Morgan will sing music by Schubert and Vaughan Williams on 30 January. Richard will be accompanied by pianist Bill Lloyd, and the concert will include two song cycles: Schubert's Schwanengesang (Swan Song) and The House of Life by Vaughan Williams.
Schwanengesang (1828) contain Schuberts last songs, and they show the composer at the peak of his ability. The settings of 14 poems by Heine, Rellstab and Seidl include some of Schuberts most impassioned and captivating melodies.
The House of Life (1903) is one of Vaughan Williams' finest vocal collections from his early years. The songs, scored for voice and piano, are based on the six sonnets of the same collective title by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
The concert will take place in the Chapel at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12 (students £5), and are available from The Shop at King’s, 13 King’s Parade, Cambridge, CB2 1SP (01223 769340; shop [at] kings [dot] cam [dot] ac [dot] uk).
