Cadogan Hall, London
On Good Friday in 1724 the congregation of Leipzig's Nicholaikirche experienced something quite new. The intimate scale and moving lyricism of Bach's St John Passion surpassed almost every piece of liturgical music the world had previously known and changed the face of Western music.
On Wednesday, 20 April 2011, the Academy of Ancient Music and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge will bring a performance of the Passion to London for the first time in their unique partnership.
The concert starts at 7pm and is followed by a drinks and canapé reception, hosted by the College. Concert performers, College Fellows and music lovers from King’s College will be in attendance.
Event tickets are priced at £80 per head and include the concert ticket and reception; reception-only tickets are available at £40 per head. Proceeds from the event will benefit Music at King's.
