Sports Day at New College, Oxford

Lent Term 2018 saw more than 50 King’s students travel to New College, Oxford, to take part in the first ever sister College Sports Day, thanks a Sports Fund created by the generous support of a King’s Member.

Both King’s and New College organised teams for hockey, lacrosse, rounders, tennis, squash, croquet, football and netball. What King’s teams lacked in experience they made up for in enthusiasm!

Rounders was the most popular event of the day, with more than 30 people showing up for the King’s side. Taking a relaxed approach to the rules, it was an exciting match bringing together so many people. With numbers on our side, King’s won by a landslide.

The event renewed enthusiasm for taking part in leagues and cuppers in Cambridge. Several Colleges hold annual sister competitions, and King’s College Students Union hope to host the reciprocal visit next year, and continue meeting with New College students annually and including other sports to the day, such as men’s football, men’s and mixed rugby, and basketball.

It has been very exciting to establish this sports link with our sister college, and we are grateful for the fund supporting the event.
