Foundation Lunch 2020

Please note that due to the current situation with COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Foundation Lunch. Efforts are being made to telephone everyone who is registered to let them know the decision and to offer a refund. If you have any questions regarding your booking, please phone us on 01223 767497.

We look forward to welcoming our Members and their guests back to College on Saturday, 14 March 2020 for the Foundation Lunch. The event is open to all King’s Members who matriculated in and before 1970, and their guests.

2020 marks 50 years since the death of King’s alumnus and one of the major British writers of the twentieth century, E. M. Forster. The programme will include a talk from the Acting Vice-Provost and Fellow Librarian, Peter Jones on Forster and King’s: Residence and Reciprocity which will explore different facets of Forster’s relationship with King’s, from undergraduate friendships to his famous tea parties on A staircase.

Following lunch, there will be an exhibition in the Wine Room, linked to the talk on Forster’s legacy and the people and places that influenced him. There will also be the opportunity to go informally into the Foundation Concert rehearsal in the Chapel, which may appeal to those who aren’t able to attend the concert that evening. Please see the programme for further information on the timings and locations.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back to King’s for this annual event.

In light of the current situation regarding the global Coronavirus outbreak, we are at present aiming to proceed with the Foundation Lunch. We are monitoring events on a daily basis, and will likely postpone/cancel the event should we have a confirmed case in College. We’ve assessed this as unlikely but that would be a decision for the College’s Senior Officers, on the advice of Public Health England. In the meantime the advice is to have lots of hand washing and vigilant hygiene, but otherwise to carry on as normal.

Foundation Concert

The date of the Foundation Lunch coincides with the Foundation Concert in the Chapel, which this year will feature Mendelssohn’s ‘Hebrides’ Overture and Beethoven’s Mass in C Major Op.86. A limited number of top and middle section seats for the concert, priced £35.00 and £27.00 each respectively, are on hold for those attending the Foundation Lunch. If you would like to buy Foundation Concert tickets in addition to your lunch ticket/s, please detail this on your response form. Concert tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be available for collection at the registration desk.
