Sitting admissions assessments and other tests

This page is for King's applicants who have been invited for interview in Cambridge and will sit a test or Admissions Assessment. It is to be read in the context of the Cambridge interview section in the Applicant Information 2017.

This information is worth reading carefully, and please read it again shortly before you travel to Cambridge as we are adding details over time.

Please start by reading your invitation to interview very carefully. Do you have a test or Admissions Assessment? Where does your invitation to interview say that it is? Do not assume that your test or Admissions Assessment will be in the same location as other candidates, even if they are applying for the same subject as you. It is important to read your own invitation to interview carefully.

Tests and Admissions Assessments in Lecture Room 9, Mill Lane Lecture Rooms

The Mill Lane Lecture Rooms are not in King’s College. They are very close to King’s.

  • Please check the location of your Admissions Assessment on your invitation to interview. This information only applies to you if you are scheduled for the assessment in the Mill Lane Lecture Rooms.
  • Mill Lane Lecture Rooms, 8 Mill Lane, Cambridge CB2 1RX on the map (see red pin)
  • Be careful not to confuse Mill Lane with Mill Road, which is in a different part of Cambridge
  • You are advised to wear a watch.
  • You are required to arrive no later than 15 mins before the start time.
  • You are asked to bring your own pens and to ensure that you have a spare pen to hand.
  • You may bring a bottle of water (but no food) into the test room.
  • Please check this information again in early December - further information may be added.
  • Dictionaries and calculators are not permissted for any test or Admissions Assessment

Music tests in Lecture Room 3 in the Music Faculty

The Music Faculty on West Road, just behind King's

Lecture Room 3 in the Music Faculty is not in King’s College. It is very close to King’s.

History of Art Admissions Assessments in the Mill Lane Lecture Rooms

The Mill Lane Lecture Rooms are not in King’s College. They are very close to King’s.

  • Please check the location of your Admissions Assessment on your invitation to interview. This information only applies to you if you are scheduled for the assessment in the Mill Lane Lecture Rooms.
  • Mill Lane Lecture Rooms, 8 Mill Lane, Cambridge CB2 1RX on the map (see red pin)
  • Be careful not to confuse Mill Lane with Mill Road, which is in a different part of Cambridge.
  • IMPORTANT: Please bring some form of photo identification to the Linguistics admissions assessment (you need it for the admisisons assessment but not your interview).
  • You are advised to wear a watch.
  • You are required to arrive no later than 15 mins before the start time.
  • You are asked to bring your own pens and to ensure that you have a spare pen to hand.
  • You may bring a bottle of water (but no food) into the test room.
  • Candidates with no extra time sit the Admissions Assessment in Mill Lane Lecture Room 3.
  • Candidates with extra time confirmed by King's sit the Admissions Assessment in Mill Lane Lecture Room 2.
  • History of Art Admissions Assessment (1 hour)

Classics 4-year Admissions Assessments in the Classics Faculty

The Classics Faculty on the Sidgwick Site is not in King’s College. It is very close to King’s. The Sidgwick Site is a collection of Faculty buildings.

 

All tests in F7A or F7B, Gibbs Building, King’s College

Tests and Admissions Assessments in F7A or F7B may be for any subject (even if the subject is mentioned elsewhere on this page). Please be aware that other candidates who have applied for the same subject as you will have their test in a different location - be careful not to follow the crowd and instead look at your own invitation to interview.

If you are taking a test in F7A or F7B please report to the Admissions Office (F1, Gibbs Building) five minutes before the start time of your test.

Somebody from the office will then take you down to the relevant room (in the basement of the Gibbs Building) and start your test. You will be asked to leave your mobile phone / any bags in the Admissions Office and must collect them immediately after the test.

All tests in Keynes Seminar Rooms, Keynes Building, King’s College

Tests and Admissions Assessments in Keynes Seminar Rooms may be for any subject (even if the subject is mentioned elsewhere on this page). Please be aware that other candidates who have applied for the same subject as you will have their test in a different location - be careful not to follow the crowd and instead look at your own invitation to interview.

If you are taking a test in a Keynes Seminar Room, please report to the location indicated on your invitation at least ten minutes before the start time of your test.

Somebody from the office will meet you there and take you to the relevant room and start your test. You will be asked to leave your mobile phone / any bags with the Admissions Officer and must remember to collect them immediately after the test.

  •     You are advised to wear a watch.
  •     No dictionaries or calculators are permitted for any test or Admissions Assessment.

The Engineering Seminar in the Audit Room, Old Lodge, King’s College

The Engineering seminar takes place in King’s.

You will see an Engineering seminar on your invitation to interview if you have applied for:

  • Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering via Engineering

Please see the document downloadable from the Applicant Information page entitled ‘Finding rooms in King’s’ (this document will be available from early December). You should also feel free to ask the students at the interview helpdesk if you would like somebody to walk you to the room.

Please assemble outside the Audit Room 15 minutes before the start time. The time on your invitation to interview is the time that the seminar starts. You will be called into the room and everything will be explained then.

Calculators are not permitted. You are advised to wear a watch.

The Architecture Admissions Assessment in the Audit Room, Old Lodge, King’s College

Please check that your invitation to interview says that your Admissions Assessment will be in the Old Lodge. If not, this informaiton is not relevant to you.

Please see the document downloadable from the Applicant Information page entitled ‘Finding rooms in King’s’ (this document will be available from early December). You should also feel free to ask the students at the interview helpdesk if you would like somebody to walk you to the room.

Please assemble outside the Audit Room 15 minutes before the start time. The time on your invitation to interview is the time that the Admissions Assessment starts. You will be called into the room and everything will be explained then.

The first part of your Admissions Assessment will take place inside. The second part will take place outside. We recommend that you dress warmly. Fingerless gloves would be particularly useful. You are advised to wear a watch.
