King's College Choir sing Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 in the Chapel on 9 July.
This year marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers for the Blessed Virgin). The Vespers are a masterpiece of religious music. The music ranges from large-scale, flamboyant movements for up to 10 vocal parts, to quiet, prayerful verses for the solo voice.
The beautiful setting and the acoustics of King's College Chapel provide an appropriate setting for this monumental work.
The Choir will be joined by the Academy of Ancient Music with sopranos Catherine Bott and Nicki Kennedy, and tenors John McMunn and Ben Alden. King's Director of Music, Stephen Cleobury, will conduct.
The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £40, £30, £22 (£5 unsighted and student standby available on the door or from The Shop at King’s, 01223 769340). You can buy tickets from the Cambridge Corn Exchange Box Office (01223 357851) or The Shop at King’s, King's Parade, Cambridge (01223 769340).
