Gibbs 300th Anniversary Challenge Gibbs is vital to King’s, and the refurbishment project is one of the College’s highest priorities. The renewal and restoration of Gibbs will cost in the region of £25 million. Gifts to help support the work given in 2024 will release a matching amount up to a total of £1 million.

This fund provides students with support for fees and maintenance, and is awarded before a student comes to King’s. The Studentships and Bursaries fund is critical to maintaining our needs blind admissions policy – it encourages the very best students to apply to King’s and helps them to fund, up front, the substantial cost of their education.

The Student Access and Support Initiative will transform King’s ability to improve access and ensure that students with talent and tenacity will be welcomed, valued and thrive here. The Supplementary Exhibition Fund and the new Top-up Bursary Scheme play a vital role in supporting our undergraduates. The King's College Library has been in continuous existence since 1441. As well as preserving many rare book and manuscript treasures and offering an outstanding resource for researchers, the Library and the Archive Centre also serve the current needs of undergraduate and graduate students and Fellows.

King's College Chapel is the most famous and recognisable building in Cambridge, and is of national and international significance. Conservation and management of the Chapel fabric and furnishings are a constant ongoing need, from the roof coverings to cleaning and repair of the stone and woodwork, and the medieval stained glass.

The Choir of King’s College depends on the continued provision of education for the 16 choristers, 14 Choral Scholars and two Organ Scholars and the employment of a full-time Director of Music. We aim to build an endowment to support the work of the Choir and the position of Director of Music, as well as funds for choristerships.

King’s has a particularly strong tradition of postdoctoral research, helping gifted young researchers to establish their careers through four-year Research Fellowships before they move on to become academics, teachers and independent researchers. Philanthropic support will help us expand the scope of our Research Fellowships and attract the best candidates not only in traditional fields but in new and interdisciplinary areas.

The Student Welfare and Mental Health Fund allows the College to offer dedicated resource and a programme of care and activities directed at the welfare and mental health of resident students. We are seeing more problems with anxiety and other mental health issues every year, and increasing our provision in this area is one of our top priorities.

One of the biggest barriers to being able to go on to PhD research is the need to complete a Masters or MPhil first. Increasing fees and little available funding means that students without independent financial means are at a disadvantage. We want to create new graduate studentships across a range of subjects to attract and retain the best graduate students.

The Supplementary Exhibition Fund (SEF) is one of the most vital student hardship safety nets, and has supported generations of King’s students since it was first established in 1886. Donations enable the Fund to award money to students in financial need and improve their welfare in the broadest sense. Funds are dispersed as both grants and loans, depending on the individual circumstances.
