Recommending a book

The aim of the library is to provide you with the books that you need for your studies, so you are welcome to make recommendations for the purchase of books in your subject. Indeed it is library policy to make acquisitions user-oriented and user-driven.

You can recommend books that we do not hold and duplicate copies of books we already have, which have been taken out by somebody else. Book recommendation forms are kept at the Issue Desk. Completed forms should be returned to the College Librarian or the Assistant Librarians, who will usually seek approval from Directors of Studies.

The Library will obtain the books for you as quickly as possible, so don't forget to fill in the 'Date needed by' slot. To recommend books via the online catalogue, go to the catalogue and click on the recommend to purchase link on the purple toolbar above the search box. Then fill in the form that appears. Please don't forget to fill in the user ID field so that we know who is making the request. Your user ID is the barcode number from the back of your University card: 5 letters/digits immediately below the barcode, usually beginning with V. The alternate ID field should be left blank.

Recommendations for books of reference or general interest may be discussed with the Assistant Librarian.
