Three choristers

King's College Choir is perhaps the most famous choral foundation of its kind. It is made up of fourteen adult male Choral Scholars and sixteen boy Choristers.

The Choristers are educated at King's College School (tel: 01223 365814). They receive generous scholarships from King’s College to help pay for their education.

The School has 400 boys and girls aged 4 to 13, and the choristers are selected at an annual audition usually when they are in Year 2 or 3 at school. A chorister joins the school as he enters Year 4, and occasionally there may be a choristership place in this year.

As well as receiving an excellent education, Choristers sing in the magnificent King's Chapel, enjoy broadcasts, recordings and foreign tours.

The Director of Music Stephen Cleobury is always pleased to hear of prospective Choristers. If your son is aged six or seven and enjoys singing then feel free to contact Stephen by telephone on 01223 331224 or by email at

King's makes every effort to make choristerships possible for any boy with the right musical ability, regardless of financial circumstances.

The next formal auditions for choristers are on 17-18 January 2014, but Stephen is always happy to see boys throughout the year for informal auditions.
